12 nepali killed in iraq 2004

 In 2004, 12 Nepali migrant workers abducted, kept hostage for 12 days, and killed in Iraq by a terrorist group. This caused widespread riot in Nepal which killed 2, injured several, lost billions NPR in property damage.

2004 Aug 19: a group of nepalis were transported to Iraq by a caravan using the Amman-Baghdad Highway. Along the way they were kidnapped by iraqi sunni insurgent group Jamaat Ansar al-sunna.

2004 Aug 20: the group released a video of the hostages which showed them begging for their lives and blaming Pralhad Giri of Moonlight Consultants for their abduction. the media was aired by various Nepali channels.

2004 aug 23: nepal gov plead via Al Jazeera tv channel but unable to contact kidnappers.

2004 aug 31: tv channels broadcast pictures of the dead bodies of 12 Nepalis.

2004 aug 31-sep 6: series of riots occurred in cities across Nepal. Two people died. Looting, arson, vandalism occurred. Kantipur publication, kantipur tv, space times network, channel nepal, and multiple employment angncies were severely vandalized. Mosques, embassies and airlines from islamic countries were also the target. Multiple billions of NPR lost in damages.

2004 sep 1: PM sher b deuba gave sppech to nation on radio nepal and called for restraint. He also anounced to provide 10lakh npr to victim family and proclaimed 2 September to be a national day of mourning.

2004 sep 4: curfew started to ease.

2004 sep 6: curfew officially ended.
